Our elders tell us stories about how its name came about. They say the Khoi and San people named it Hoerikwaggo or Mountain in the Sea.

Research and archaeological evidence suggests that its history and inhabitants dates back to over 30,000 years, as hand axes were found in the Kirstenbosch Garden that may have been used by the Stone Age people.

It’s famously known as the Table Mountain, a flat-topped mountain that represents the city of Cape Town as an iconic wonder of the world. It’s one of South Africa’s most significant tourist attractions and home to a large number of possibilities.

What’s cool about the Table Mountain?
In 2011 it was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The Table Mountain has an Aerial Cableway that takes passengers from the lower cable station on Tafelberg Road, about 991 ft above sea level to the plateau at the top of the mountain, at 3,501 ft.

The image above is the Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on the Table Mountain. It is situated on the Eastern end on the plateau of the mountain.

The beacon is 1,086 metres above sea level and consists of manmade rock packed in a triangle form reaching 5 metres high. It is considered as a National Monument.

What does Tholispani.space think about the Table Mountain?
What makes the Table Mountain so interesting to us is the fact that unlike other attractions, it’s not manmade, it’s a piece of nature. It is what it is not because some skilful architecture orchestrated its design, it’s inspired by nature.
