In South Africa’s very own concrete jungle lies a place so whimsical and lush that you have to see it to believe it. That’s right. In the heart of the business district of Sandton is the antithesis of the office block around the corner, it is the Field Market.

Whilst the Field & Study Centre has been around for an age, the introduction of the outdoor market has bought to the fore an influx of newcomers. Occurring on the 2nd Saturday of the month, the market has food, music & craftwork. The trifecta of market culture. Entry is free and you can experience uninterrupted fun from 10am until 3pm.

The space is vast, the air is fresh, the trees are aplenty. The Field Centre welcomes people young and old, from all walks of life. The jovial and relaxed atmosphere will have you forgetting that you are even in Sandton.

The open-air stalls burst with local flavour, there is bound to be a meal, drink or handcrafted ware that will tickle your fancy. Local is lekker in these parts, no imported goods allowed!

And what better to make the experience more fulfilling than a local artist strumming their guitar or flexing those vocal cords? The main seating area, flanked by an astounding 120 stalls, offers the stage to live local music with new musos showcasing their talents at every market.

Bring along the kids if you wish! The Field & Study Centre boasts a large free play area with activities such as horse rides, sand art, ceramic painting, and a nature scavenger hunt to boot! Don’t forget the fur children. Doggies are welcome too, just be sure to have all pups on a leash.

The market has ample security, space for parking, clean toilets and is wheelchair friendly. There isn’t an ATM available, but there is a central credit card payment facility at the market info table.

There are 4 more markets for the rest of the year, will we be seeing you there?
